Raymond Loretto

Raymond Loretto, DVM owns and operates the Loretto Veterinary Clinic, San Ysidro, NM. His practice serves large and small animals in the only veterinary medical clinic in Sandoval county serving northern rural communities within a 60-mile radius. He specializes in assisting in the establishment of herd management programs and providing medical care for bison herds managed by private owners and several northern Pueblo tribes in New Mexico. He has also set up special clinics for several Indian reservation communities.

Dr. Loretto recently served as Governor of the Pueblo of Jemez in New Mexico. Following the cultural and traditional practices of the Pueblo of Jemez, he was appointed for this special service in 2003. As Governor, he was responsible, along with the appointed 1st Lieutenant Governor and 2nd Lieutenant Governor, for administering and managing seven tribal departments – Health and Human Services; Community Services; Public Works; Housing; Finance and Human Resources, Tribal Enterprises, and Education. The Pueblo of Jemez employs over 200 employees and serves approximately 3,300 tribal members. Dr. Loretto also served as 1st Lieutenant Governor in 2001. During both terms serving his community, he took one-year sabbaticals from his veterinary practice.

Dr. Loretto earned his BS in Animal Science from New Mexico State University; his MS in Animal Nutrition from Colorado State University and his DVM from Colorado State University.
