Dr. Melissa Savage is the Trustee uniquely qualified to fulfill the need of a person with expertise in the natural and cultural history of the area. She is the director of the Four Corners Institute which is a nonprofit organization in Santa Fe that provides scientific advice to communities restoring their natural environments. Dr. Savage is also a forest geographer with a specialty in fire ecology and the southwestern conifer ecosystems. She is an Emerita Professor of Geography at UCLA and currently an adjunct professor at the University of New Mexico. She has a M.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and a Ph.D. in Geography from the University of Colorado.
