9:00 AM - 3:30 PM Ski Orienteering Meet
New Mexico Orienteers will hold a ski orienteering meet. This meet is open to all, and instruction in orienteering will be offered to newcomers to the sport. What is ski or snowshoe orienteering? Orienteering is a sport of finding a series of markers spread around the landscape using a map and a compass. In the summer it is done on foot. In the winter, in snow, it is done using XC skis or snowshoes. In this meet, the start and finish will be at the Valle Grande staging area.
Registration will be between 9 AM and 1 PM. Participants may choose between a short (3.5 km), medium (5.5 km), or long (10.5 km) course. After registering participants get a map and a clue sheet, and a start time. People may go out on a course individually or in pairs or a family group. All competitors must be back to the staging area by 3:30 PM. The meet costs $5 per map, plus the day pass for the Valles Caldera. Compasses are available for rent for at $1 each.
This event is brought to you by the New Mexico Orienteers (www.nm-orienteers.org).
