Virtual Meetings

Overview

If you are unable to attend any of our open house or meeting events, we invite you to attend virtually. In the virtual open house you may view posters with vivid photos and descriptive details. Whatever the subject matter is, the open house will provide historic back ground information, present resource and activity descriptions, and inform you about what actions the Trust is proposing, what we are trying to achieve, and how you can participate.

A variety of informational handouts are available to provide you with greater detail about particular subjects and more information can be found in the many reference documents available through this website.

Attendees to the open house were able to visit with staff – visitors to our virtual open house can ask questions of the staff by using the feedback button from our web site. Any comment forms provided at the meeting will also be available online at the virtual meeting.

Currently, these virtual meetings are available online:

Public Use and Access

Welcome to our virtual open house for public use and access to the Preserve! The Trust held meetings at four venues surrounding the Preserve over the summer of 2007. We displayed posters introducing the Trust, summarizing what we have heard from the public and what we have learned about the Preserve in five years. We also displayed posters depicting the Preserve’s current visitor programs and the current infrastructure and facilities. The posters include vivid photos and descriptive text. Handouts with detailed technical information regarding the history and resources of the Preserve were also available. A facilitated workshop engaged the public and the Trust in a process to identify goals and visions for the future of the Preserve and activities people would like to see available. We then attempted to balance all the activities on the landscape while attaining our goals and protection the resources. An ideal experience comment card used by participants is available for your use.

Multiple Use and Sustained Yield of Forage

Welcome to the virtual open house for the Multiple Use and Sustained Yield of Forage. The Trust is proposing to continue annual programs for domestic livestock grazing and manage the Preserve’s ranch infrastructure in context with proposed ecological goals and objectives. The Proposed Stewardship Action is framed by the Multiple Use and Sustained Yield Act of 1960, which requires resources to be managed for both value to humans as well as an inherent value in the ecosystem. Well managed use is expected to sustain yields into perpetuity. Vivid posters and detailed handouts are available to describe the ecological condition of the Preserve and the suitability and capacity of the Preserve to support grazing by livestock, elk and other wildlife. Photos and examples are used to explain environmental laws, terminology, and the process of environmental analysis. The Preserves natural and cultural history is briefly outlined with historic photos. This history is detailed in a beautifully written report, Valles Caldera National Preserve Land Use History available for download. A discussion which focused on local desires for livestock management on the Preserve was held, these comments are available along with planning documents and additional resource information.
