Stewardship Action Proposals

Stewardship of the Preserve is guided by the National Environmental Policy Act commonly known by the acronym – NEPA. NEPA applies to all federal agencies and requires each agency to develop its own set of procedures to ensure compliance. The Trust’s procedures for compliance with NEPA were published in July of 2003 and provide a program for the”...comprehensive management of the lands, resources and facilities of the Valles Caldera National Preserve...”

Accurate scientific analysis, expert agency comments, and public scrutiny are essential to implementing NEPA and Trust’s NEPA procedures ensure that information is available to citizens before decisions are made and action is taken.
