Management goals for the Preserve include continued operation as a working ranch
consistent with resource protection and recreation activities. Parts of the Trust’s
ranching operations include running a sustainable level of domestic livestock. Livestock
are generally grazing on the Preserve during the summer and early fall. We use cowboys
and cowgirls as well as our pasture fences to control the livestock and reduce any
impacts to our recreation program. However, as is to be expected on a working ranch,
you may encounter livestock during your visit. Even if you don’t actually encounter
the livestock you may notice signs of trampling or or encounter the infamous “cowpie”.
Watch your step and enjoy our western heritage!
Cattle are large animals but are not aggressive by nature. However, if aggravated
or threatened, cattle can respond in a potentially dangerous manner. Use common
sense around cattle and remember the following:
